A new goal for a new year

When I started this little blog, I made the goal to make a post once a month. To my surprise, I met that goal, if just barely. I thought that this year I'd shoot for at least two posts per month. We'll see.

So, the past two weeks have been kind of fun for our little family. We had the kiddos guess that flavor of baby we would be adding in June. They had a week to make up their mind and solidify their guess. They both guessed girl. Ana eventually changed her answer to "healthy." I'm pretty sure that it's because that was the answer Joel and I both gave. We told the kids that we would go get icecream when we found out. I made a deal with the kids that if they guessed correctly, they could get the chocolate and sprinkle dipped waffle cones.

Wednesday (the 11th) Joel and I tottled off to the doctor and sure enough, they're pretty sure its a girl (she's a bit squirmy) We decided that we would "break" the news to the kids by doing a pinata. Joel bought a cow pinata, purchased confetti that said 'it's a girl' and tons of treats for the kiddos. We broke it open in Ana's room and I tell you what! That cow did not want to open up!! It took them beating it for almost five minutes to even get a leg off. But alas, they succeeded and are very excited to be getting a new sister! Ana is extatic that she gets to share a room with the baby and JJ is glad he gets to repaint his room in a "scary" way cause he doesn't have to share!

JJ lost another tooth this week. He's been wiggling it for a while now.

Also new this week, we are babysitting my sister Emily's rat. Her name is Honey and she is very sweet. Ana loves to hold her and JJ likes to carry her in his sweatshirt hood. Honey prefers to hang out down Joel's and my shirt. Whatever works, I guess.

Joel has been invited to co-design the next set for the theater. It's a childrens play (his favorite to design for) about Tall Tales. They have some pretty great ideas.

Lately....

The past few months have been very busy at the Farnsworth house. We kicked off November with the kiddos doing dance and basketball (fun for me!). I continued to work on school and helping Joel with his classes while he worked on building a massive crazy set! Fun times.
Thanksgiving was eventful for us. Joel prepared the usual marinated mushrooms and mashed potatoes for his family dinner. This year, however he added pink food coloring to the potatoes with jalapenos and blue food coloring to the ones without. It was our little way of announcing the new addition coming to our family in June. The family is almost as excited as we are! We'll find out what we are having soon and will let you know when we do!!
Ana had a dance recital the first week of December. There were many who joined us in supporting her. She was so excited and did a fantastic job. Joel's dad, brother, grandparents, grandma Kathy, sister and her awesome kids and my mother came to watch her little dances. Joel's sister Katie is an amazing photographer and was there to take pictures. Ana did very well and we're so proud of her.
We upheld the tradition with Joel's family and decorated gingerbread houses at the grandma's house. The kids had fun with their cousins making a mess and having fun.
JJ finished off this part of the school year by performing a piece from the Nutcracker with the entire second grade. He was in the tambourine section and did fantastic. I was able to leave work early and go with Joel to watch him. I am pretty sure my favorite part was when the curtain closed and you could see his converse poking out from under the curtain.
Ana had a little dance and singing performance with her class this last Friday. They worked hard and did a good job. Joel and I agree that our favorite part of this was the little boy with the country twang singing feliz navidad dead center stage. It was quite hilarious.
Joel and I went to the SCERA on Saturday for the employee work party. They had a lovely catered breakfast, my dear friend Debbie Bowman sang a beautiful song all topped off with a white elephant gift exchange. Joel won a gift certificate for an hour long massage at the local spa which he so selflessly gave to me. : ) I'm not complaining.
The kids are quite anxious for Christmas and are enjoying the time off of school. Joel is able to stay home with them (lucky him) while I work my regular work schedule through the holidays. We hope you all have a Merry Christmas and we are looking forward to the exciting year to come.

October!!!

It's been a busy month for us at the Farnsworth house! JJ finished out soccer and Ana is still doing ballet. She does such a good job and makes an adorable ballerina. Joel finished the set for the show, "How I became a Pirate" We went as a family opening night and the kiddos LOVED it! I've been working on halloween costumes, Ana's dance recital tutu's and her cheerleader outfits. Yes, outfits. One for JJ's soccer team (The HULKS) and the other for our favorite NFL team....go Packers! We have also been helping with the family Halloween train, the Nightmare Express. This is the kids first year getting to help "scare" Ana's been in the princess tunnel trapped by an ogre and JJ spent time between the pirate tunnel and the Oogie Boogie tunnel. They do a fantastic job. Joel helped animate a 12ft marionette Dragon for the train and has been the primary operator every night while I run around doing whatever. We're excited for Halloween and I'll post pictures soon!

September is almost gone!

Seeing as it's the middle of September and before we know it, October will be here, I figured I'd update ya'll on how it's been the past few weeks at the Farnsworth house.

We returned from our Amazing vacation (stll haven't posted pics, sorry. They are on facebook though) and jumped right back in to routine. JJ is now in second grade and loves it! Ana is in the Pre-K program and is doing fantastic! JJ started soccer (Go Hulks!) and is quite the little player and Ana started ballet. That means I"m running around getting them where they need to go in addition to school and work. I'm super busy lately (which, I love and can't complain)
Joel is continuing to do school, which is awesome! He is back to working on sets at the theater and is hoping to have the opportunity to design another one soon. He surprised me by working on my laundry room floor! He also bought me a new kitten this weekend (Dorkchester the Second) and I absolutely love him!
So, as per usual, we're all busy but loving it!!
