The story of Miss Amelia May Farnsworth

Ok. So, I'm not so good at the blogging thing. With that being said, I'll write a super long post and feel like I'm pretty good at it.

As my due date (June 14th) approached, I continued to get more and more uncomfortable as everyone said I would. I started having contractions on the 13th. I ended up in Labor and Delivery on the monitors, alas, while I was having contractions, they weren't strong enough to keep me. Talk about disappointment! My due date came and went. I continued to have contractions fairly continuously but nothing that I couldn't deal with. Saturday, they intensified and after many hours of timing contractions and being in pain, Joel and I headed to Labor and Delivery. Again, they sent me home. Man, I was not happy!

I woke up on Wednesday, June 20th at 0400 in the morning with much stronger contractions. Finally! I spent the entire day timing them and waiting until they were 3-4 minutes apart before heading to the hospital. We called my best friend Kelsey to come with with JJ and Ana and off we went! This was about 3:30 in the afternoon. I told Joel as we were pulling out of the drive way to not let them send me home this time. (We had our induction scheduled for the next day anyway) Upon arrival at the hospital, my friend Moana was on as a nurse. She gave me a huge hug and got me all set up and checked out. My bag of water had ruptured but not "broken" so they admitted me at about 4:00 pm. Contractions continued to get more painful, the Doc came in and broke my water and started me on Pitocin. Talk about intense! I was dilated to a 4 at this point.

My contractions continued to intensify and they struggled to maintain a good monitoring of her heart beat. The doctor came in an told me that they could do internal monitoring or give me an epidural to help calm her (and me!) down. I opted for the epidural. The lady came in to insert the epidural and struggled to find the space. It took her over 35 minutes to get it placed. I was sitting crosslegged, leaning forward in to Joels chest, getting a needle shoved in my back and having intense contractions. NOT a good combo! She finally got the epidural placed right before I told her to forget it.

They checked me again at this point to see how I was doing. I had dilated to a 7. With the epidural working and what we figured was a long night ahead, Joel and I put a movie on. Within an hour or so I had completely dilated and was ready to push. The problem was, we were waiting for Joels sister to come as she was going to take pictures of the birth for us. The doc said just let him know when she was here and we would start pushing then.

Katie arrived and got everything ready. We got set up and did about ten sets of pushes with the nurse. She got the doctor and on the second set of pushes with him, Miss Amelia May Farnsworth was born. She arrived June 21st at 0031 in the morning. She weighed 7 lbs 2 oz and was 19" long.

Zoo Days

At the gate
Riding the Train
on the Carousel

Being Eagles in the Eagles nest

We are spoiled and have an annual zoo pass to the Hogle Zoo. We thought we'd take advantage of the nice weather and get me out walking. So, we packed everyone up in the van and went up to the zoo. Little did we know, the new exhibit was opening up that day. It is a great exhibit. I wasn't a fan of the bazillion people who were there but we had a good time! By the end, I could barely walk and Joel had to help pull me up the hill......still trying to get this baby out.

Ana's Graduation!!

JJ's Pinewood Derby

JJ's favorite part of scouts thus far has been the PineWood Derby. Joel and JJ had a great time designing and building his car. He won first place in his den and third place overall!
He also won the award for the most aerodynamic

 Anxiously awaiting the cars!

Slipping into summer time : )

We've now had Ana's Pre-K graduation, we've moved rooms in prep for Amelia coming (any day now...), attended the patriotic program for JJ's school, Joel and I helped with field day and today was the official LAST day of JJ's last day of 2nd grade career. He's a happy 3rd grader now! I only say that because he was a little teary at the breakfast table this morning. Seeing as we're slipping right into summer, I thought I'd add some pics I took of the kids a couple weeks ago when we had the slip n slide out....oh, and some of our chickens

Here are some of our chickens. (From L to R: Becky, Bandersnatch(black), White Queen (white), Tweedle Dum, Luna, Queen of Hearts (Brown with white) and the Mad Hatter.)

This was their, "you go" "no, you go"
 JJ was the brave one!

Ana was a little more nervous

ooops

I didn't do so well at meeting my goal to blog 2x a month in April. However, I have been quite busy. So, here's a mini update. I finished my last day at the hospital the end of April. It has been so nice for me to be home and be a mom for the kids (and getting ready for the new baby). JJ finished soccer for the year. He is getting to be such a talented little player!! I'm proud of him. Ana has graduated from Pre-K. I'll try and get the photos up soon.....hopefully. I have been sewing for a wedding and hopefully, I can be done with that in the next day or so. I was able to have a baby shower with my mom, sisters and friends. This is going to be one spoiled little girl. Joel and I continue to visit the doctor and little Miss Amelia is doing well. She is due in 27 days (I think she'll come before then, Joel thinks she'll be late and 12lbs!!...yeah right) I'll try and be better about getting stuff posted and updated but it'll have to wait until I'm done sewing for this wedding : )
